First, in addition to the RFP ideas we currently have in the pipeline, we are seeking ideas from the Zcash community to identify gaps in development tooling, resources, or documentation that hinder building on top of Zcash. We have created an RFP Idea Submission form that will help inform the ZCG of the community’s development needs, with the goal of gathering proposals that can be prioritized and developed into RFPs for projects that will improve the development on and usability of Zcash. The form has no deadline, and the idea originator will receive a $500 USD in ZEC bounty reward upon ZCG’s acceptance of an RFP proposal for their idea. The RFP Idea bounties aim to reward community members for their time and incentivize the development of their ideas. Further information can be found under the “Zcash Community Grants RFP Program’’ section of zcashgrants.org. The Idea form and bounty process works like this:

Community member has an idea and fills out the RFP Idea Submission Form

If ZCG is interested in funding the idea, ZCG works with community member to draft and publish an RFP around the idea.

A developer submits a proposal in response to the RFP.

ZCG accepts the proposal for the RFP.

Community member receives the bounty reward of $500.

Next, we are changing the layout of our RFPs to improve the readability of the document and cut to the point of the proposal. Standard language that applies to every proposal will be linked onto the forum thread where the proposal is posted and hosted here. We have also provided clarity about how we will handle the RFP bidding process moving forward.

Finally, the committee has issued two RFPs for qualified individuals or companies to submit proposals to spur Unified Address support by exchanges and extend the Zcash memo field to support secure messaging.

If you’re interested in submitting a bid for one of these projects, the RFPs can be accessed as a PDF document and are available for discussion on the Zcash Community Forum here:

Over the coming months, ZCG will be publishing a number of Requests For Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Input (RFIs) for various projects.

RFPs describe specific projects ZCG is interested in funding and seek to solicit bids from developers interested in working on a project. RFPs will be posted to the Zcash Community Forum and the Zcash Grants platform. RFIs are pre-RFPs where we have a general idea for a project and we’re asking for the community’s feedback to help us make it better, or to better reflect what the community wants to see before we post the actual RFP. RFIs will be posted to the Zcash Community Forum for discussion.

In addition, we are currently working with the Zcash Foundation on a plan to advertise and market the RFPs in order to attract more high-quality developers. We will announce more information about this plan later this quarter.

So far, the committee has issued two RFPs for qualified individuals or companies to submit proposals to create a podcast dedicated to Zcash and to develop a Zcash UniFFI library for simplifying the use of core cryptography methods and to make integrating with Zcash much easier.

If you’re interested in submitting a bid for one of these projects, the RFPs can be accessed as a PDF document and are available for discussion on the Zcash Community Forum here:

Check it out at https://zcashcommunitygrants.org

The site theme embodies an orange color that is associated with sunshine, enthusiasm, success, encouragement, change, determination & freedom.

We’ve streamlined the contents section to highlight what we fund and the Grants Process, including a Contact Us form for prospective applicants to reach out to the grants committee(via ZF) to resolve any outstanding questions. There is a direct link to the Zcash Community Grants Dashboard to view the total funds on hand and the progress of various proposals in flight.

We thank the Zcash Foundation to supply us with the content they had started to put together towards a micro-site for ZCG within the ZF main-site. The ZCG decided to own the landing site to have direct control to share news or make changes. @wobbzz, @BrunchTime & @aiyadt worked together to get the site up & running within a couple of weeks. We’ve spent ~$20 from the discretionary budget to obtain the domains including zcashcommunitygrants.com which redirects to the org TLD. The site is hosted via GitHub pages.

We will continue to work towards making contributions to Zcash approachable to every prospective grant applicant. Look forward to our upcoming forum posts about requests for inputs around grant ideas we are looking to fund this year.

The Global Ambassador Program is designed to identify community members who make high-quality contributions to the Zcash community and empower them to become leaders. Our goal is for Ambassadors to lead activities that grow the Zcash community, drive user adoption, and advance awareness of Zcash’s privacy-preserving technology.

Some examples include hosting physical or virtual meetup events, maintaining an active presence on social media, and creating original content related to Zcash. Our intention is for the program to be relatively flexible, and for Ambassadors to have creative freedom over the activities they plan. Ambassadors who successfully fulfill their obligations are eligible to receive a monthly stipend of $1,000 to support and reward their efforts.

The first cohort of Ambassadors will start March 1 and serve an initial trial period of three months with the possibility of extending through the year. The Ambassadors are Artkor from Russia, Yoditar from Venezuela, and Ziga, paywithzcash, and Trends from the United States. Please join me in congratulating them on their new role within the community.

Over time, if the program is successful and proves to be a value add to the Zcash community, we hope to include more community members from different parts of the world. We are also considering expanding it to support project-based activities such as organizing meetups, moderating social media channels, and translating materials into non-English languages. Although the first cohort was chosen by the grants committee, future Ambassadors will be nominated and selected by the community.

Please use this thread to share any questions or feedback you have related to the program or specific Ambassadors.

After careful consideration, we are thrilled to announce that - as part of the ongoing evolution of the Major Grants program - we will be rebranding the Zcash Open Major Grants, changing its name to Zcash Community Grants.

How did we get here?

Our new identity encompasses all the existing expectations of what the Zcash Open Major Grants originally stood for, while simultaneously moving the brand forward to acknowledge the important role that the Zcash community plays in this ecosystem. It is the Zcash community that elected to allocate the largest slice of the dev fund for major grants to fund community-led development activities that benefit the Zcash ecosystem.

With Zcash and the Zcash community in mind, our goal was to pick a name that is simple, timeless, and consistent with other programs in the industry, one that would facilitate search engine optimization (SEO). This is how we arrived at “Zcash Community Grants”.

As of this moment, our Twitter handle has changed to @ZcashCommGrants 10 and you can find us on the web at zcashcommunitygrants.org

We are now a few weeks into our role as Zcash community-elected major grants committee members. We’ve been engaged in a flurry of activity with the Zcash Foundation ranging from understanding current policies and ZF resources made available to the committee, approving the largest grant in Major Grants history to bring shielded assets to Zcash 3, and discussing exciting things to come such as a Zcash Ambassador Program, multiple RFPs and grant ideas, and upcoming milestone deliverables for currently active grants. One of our additional tasks in the upcoming weeks will be to update all our online branding to better reflect the changes described above.

As you notice changes in our branding, signs and promotions feel free to reach out with any thoughts, requests or comments. We’re excited to be part of the next chapter in Zcash’s history and look forward to a productive year funding projects to build out the Zcash ecosystem.

Sincerely,
